Historic Study

Post-war Recovery of the Ancient City of Aleppo: The Citadel’s entrance sector: extensively destroyed zone.

Status: Project in progress: September 2022 / September 2023.   Final project: Urban planning, Art, Architecture and landscape. Footage: 3.2Hectars Site: the zone limited by the Citadel’s massive to the North, Maslama bin Abdul-Malek Street to the South; the Justice Palace to the East; the National Hospital to the West, including Hammam Yalbugha; the New Serail; al-Madrasa as-Sultaniyya; the complex al-khusrawiyya; khan as-Shouna. Our mission:

  1. presenting a detailed historiography of the concerned urban fabric;

  2. elaborating a synthesis about the authenticity of the site;

  3. dealing with the integrity of the site in the traditional urban fabric of the city;

  4. proposing strategies for harmonizing a recovery project of the site with the Inscription of the Ancient City of Aleppo in the World Heritage List.
